Optogenetics helps clarify brain circuit, aiming for new treatments for psychiatric disorders

Researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center and colleagues used optogenetics (a technique that uses light to turn nerve cells on and off) to help record the activity of individual nerve cells in a small part of the brain called the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN), which directs signals coming from the outside world or internal memories.
